Call Of Duty Black Ops 4 Will "Push The Envelope," Activision Says


We're just a few days away from learning lots more about Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, but ahead of that, publisher Activision Publishing continues to tease the military shooter. During an earnings call today, Activision Publishing president Coddy Johnson started off by praising developer Treyarch for their "proven track record of innovation"; the studio created the uber-popular Zombies mode and also the Pick Ten multiplayer system that debuted in Black Ops II (and might be featured in Black Ops 4, if a recent tease is to be believed).
Johnson said Treyarch is not resting on its laurels with Black Ops 4. "This is a game that is not just going to build on our strengths; it will continue to push the envelope in innovation," he teased. "You will see that in the core game itself, where we have a number of new, exciting developments."
Black Ops 4 is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as PC. Activision is pouring in significant resources to make the PC edition great, it seems. Johnson said Activision plans to put "significant dedicated resources" into the PC version, and that's good to hear.
There have been rumours online about Black Ops 4 not having a traditional campaign and adding a battle royale mode. These are unconfirmed rumors for now, but we may learn more when Activision announces more details about the game during its May 17 reveal event.
Intriguingly, Johnson said Black Ops 4 will factor in data from the "billions" of hours that gamers have spent playing Call of Duty games. He said Activision has access to in-depth and real-time data about what people play and enjoy, and Black Ops 4 will reflect this.
Black Ops 4 launches on October 12, which is about a month before the usual Call of Duty release. Activision hasn't said why it shifted the date, but launching ahead of the expected juggernaut Red Dead Redemption 2(October 26) may have something to do with it.
